A Glico shop cover sign. Glico is an Osakan sweet manufacturer popular after the second World War. They used glucose in their sweets which is where their name comes from. Also popular for the Running man symbol in Shinsaibashi. Have a look at the excellent Englishman in Osaka blog`s title for a look at him.

Yesterday Reiko went to Sendai which is Northern Japan and Reiko`s mother went on a break with her friends leaving me to do the early morning Marrosan walk.
I don`t know why he gets two walks a day or why the first one has to be at five in the morning. If it were my dog, I`d let him out in the garden with orders not to defaecate anywhere visible.
Nonetheless it is not my dog and I bravely volunteered to walk him. When I came back it was 5:30 AM and after breakfast and a cold shower I left at 6:00 to go to Namba to take some pictures of Osaka city. The graffiti in Americamura interested me so here`s two.

In the evening school I work at some of the lessons I teach are where I have a short script I have to read out and ask a question on. Here is one I saw today:
A: I turned on the computer but nothing happened.
B: Didn`t you drop it Jimmy?
A: No, but I hit it against the wall.
B: I think it is broken then:
No shit.

I went to the Tenjin Matsuri festival yesterday. From wcities.com I found this explanation of it.
Held on 24-26 July, Tenjin Matsuri is one of the three main festivals held annually in Japan. Originating from a purification ceremony, the highlight of this centuries-old religious and cultural event is a two-kilometer procession from Tenmangu Shrine to Tenjin Bridge, followed by a fluvial procession comprising some 100 ornately decorated boats from the Dojima River to the Okawa River. Performances of sacred music, court dances, folk theater and other forms of traditional Japanese arts entertain the lively crowds from a boat stage gaily festooned with lanterns.
I`ve grouped some more pictures together at my Tenjin Matsuri Flickr Set

I rather liked my previous power line picture even if the post was obscured by a Harry Potter plot-revealing rant so here`s another one.

I haven`t done a `You are what you eat` for a long time and thus with the Korean post below, here is Kimchi Tofu eaten in an izakaya or Japanese bar/restaurant.
You can see the whole YAWYE collection at my YAWYE Flickr set

I went to Korean Town in Osaka near a station called Tsuruhashi on the JR line. It is cunningly enough an area where Koreans have settled. Here you can see Koreans selling clothes, especially very cheap rip offs of designer labels which wasn`t that interesting for me. What did float my boat was the food on sale around the area whether it was down the dark tunneled market streets or in the Korean restaurant we ate at.

We have spicy sauces, Korean pancakes, the market streets and a sign hopefully saying Don Stamina. Rumours that after this gorging on food, Simon`s appearance was approaching the below were unconfirmed…
