3 Reasons I’m glad I’m not in England anymore

I like to write posts denouncing Japan. I have drafts of several in my drafts’ folder. But the truth is I like a lot of things about Japan. And there are many things in England I’m glad aren’t around me anymore.
1: Chavs. There are many excellent photos there which I’m not allowed to link to. May I recommend this one?
2: The weather. Grey, cold and cloudy with a high chance of rain. I don’t mind rain. It makes the grass green and the flowers grow. A grey sky over a green valley can still be beautiful. A grey and cold sky over a series of flats, houses and shops is a recipe for depression.
3: High cost of living. Compared to England, Japan is a lot cheaper. Food is cheaper, the tax deducted from your pay slip is far less although you have to pay for the use of motorways and there’s no National Health Service.
I could only think of three. Fellow expats. Do you have any others?

I’m not an expat (or British) but I wanted to say that I’m surprised to hear that Japan is less expensive to live in than England. I was always under the impression that it was ridiculously expensive to live in Japan.
This is pretty cool information which I will now wave like a flag in the face of my friend who just moved to England ;>

No National Health Service? You pay 30% of the cost.. no?

Japan is expensive if you’re coming from America. Living in Tokyo is expensive too. But so is living in London.
Other types of expenses such as food are cheaper for me than England.

hmm.. If I went back to England I’d miss karaoke, and lack of scary drunken people. I’d definitely miss the food, and the sunshine, the beach.. argh, I may never go home (笑)

Hopeless trains.
Every day I have to endure the randomness and unpredictability of First Great Western, about whose name you pretty much can only say is geographically fairly accurate.
Life-threatening fast-food.
At Yoshinoya I used to get a bowl of rice, beef and onions, and a salad and green tea for a couple of quid. Not exactly haute cuisine, I’ll grant you, but here that gets a bag of artery-hardening fried potato or a sandwich so dull you want to end your own life.

I beg to differ about the chavs. Have you seen those jogging suit wearing teen t***pots? They lack the overall scumminess but definately have that odious edge to them.

Japan Loves (Osaka/Tokyo):
Polite people. Londoners don’t like strangers and repel them day after day. In Japan people are polite and friendly.
Good quality, value for money food.
The trains, always on time and lots of them.
Service, in shops and restaurants.
Loves of UK (London/Preston):
Night life, clubs and pubs.
Varity of food, although costly.
Parks, green fields.
Night buses, ok they are not that nice, but they run all night.
Mix of people from all over the world.

The habitual look on Londoners’ faces- something between “who the hell are you, I am much more important, don’t you realise how successful I am going to be, get out of my way” and “if the transport system fks with me one more time I’m gonna stab someone, that’s why I brought my knife”
