Here’s a photo I got of the Bournemouth Air Show of the Red Arrows doing their formation flying. I shoot using a point and shoot which I love. It’s really portable, I can take it anywhere and whip it out whenever I see an interesting shot. I think it’s also taught me a lot about composition as the constraints of the camera can be advantages too.
But there’s a mark on the sensor which shows up. Any shot of the sky I take, I have to edit the spot out. This time it’s right in the middle of the smoke trails which is seriously frustrating. I’m looking to upgrade it soon to a canon dslr. I’ll try and get a relatively old one and spend the money on the lenses. I’ll probably take the kit lens and a 50mm one.
I’m really thankful for blogging and my time in Japan. These both contributed to a love of photography. You can try and I certainly did, but it’s hard to get an uninteresting shot of Japan or go somewhere and have nothing to take photos of. The photos I take now may be a little less exotic but are all children of the literally thousands of mostly awful photos. And that’s mostly how you learn anyway.

Oh my god, your twitter comment is so true. I went to a Japanese restaurant once and they had bulgogi on the menu. I asked if they had any other Korean dishes and the waitress practically spit at me when she said, “This is a JAPANESE restaurant!”. But that was in a small town, not London so I’m surprised that they would offer Korean stuff and call it Japanese.
