Internet Archive Wayback Machine

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Found via my stumblings through Stumbleupon, I found the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. This puts, “the history of the World Wide Web at your fingertips. The Archive contains over 100 terabytes and 10 billion web pages archived from 1996 to the present.”

I used it to see where this site showed up on it and give me snapshots of the blog through its history. Try it on your site.

Incoming Tweets Alert

November 24th, 2007 by quaisi

Just to warn you you should start seeing lots of short posts on this site from now on. This will be in addition to the normal longer ones. I found a wordpress plugin from The Life of Leo which puts all the tweets I put out on twitter onto this blog too.

The point of using twitter in the first place was to get more of what I am doing and where I’m doing it out there. This just consolidates it into one place. And gets this blog updated more regularly.

If they start to bug you please let me know. Cheers.

Twitter

May 13th, 2007 by quaisi

I decided to try out Twitter, a sort of microblogging instant messenger tool. I`ll be using it in conjunction with this blog. This blog will still be my main focus and contain the meaty posts.

I`m enjoying using the twitter one as the character limit per post is 140 characters which provides a medium for more conciseness.

My twitter page is also turning out to be more personal and more of a “What I have seen and am actually doing each day blog” whereas this blog has morphed from that into a “How I see Japan blog”.

If you use twitter then add me as a friend. I`m at http://twitter.com/quaisi. Or you can subscribe to the RSS Feed for updates.

If you don`t use it then sign up and add me!

On writing

May 4th, 2007 by quaisi

I’ve never understood adverts for positions that say, “We are looking for somebody with a burning desire to work in Human Resources.” or something similar.

What kind of person comes out of their mother’s womb with the life goal of working in HR?

I say this because I’m pondering my next career move. I’m scouring adverts half heartedly. There’s plenty for sales, graduate positions and HR. But these largely do not interest me.

This blogging malarkey has given me a taste for writing. If I could blog full time, I’d be in heaven. Until then there are other avenues for me such as Journalism, Publishing or the like.

Many bloggers are using their blogs as springboards for careers in writing or the media. Use it to show your authority on a subject they say. This is fine if you’re writing about blogging for money, a niche tech interest or digital cameras.

I write about throwing pens at students, killing cockroaches and an interesting video or two I find on YouTube.

But on a good day I can draft posts for an hour in my notepad. And it doesn’t seem like work. I do it because I enjoy it. There’s got to be something good in that.

Unleash the drafts

April 25th, 2007 by quaisi

Part of blogging is that you are supposed to keep posting new stuff. It’s a newsy medium which is why blogs that focus on current events are so popular. They can get the news out before the TV Bulletin and the Japan Times.

As I’ve said before a team of blind and deaf rats could get up to date news out quicker than the Japan Times.

When Baby Belle was younger I wrote lots of drafts in my moleskine notepad with my sex-on-legs fountain pen on the cramped train to work.

When I got home after the baby was put to sleep and I was fed, my brain was too frazzled to do anything but read a few of my favourite blogs and surf YouTube before repeating the act again the following day.

Thus I have lots of half-baked posts which are months out of date.

But there’s something in them. They’re too nice to stay in my notebook. So I’d like with your permission to put a few of them up before they crumble between my fingers into irrelevance.

Good Japan Blogs

February 17th, 2007 by quaisi

I came across Tenspotting.com and its top ten user-generated lists.

They have a top ten Japan Blogs list and I was in at number ten just edging out the far superior Sushicam.

I found a few interesting sites along the list which I’ve added to my reading list including Plastic Bamboo with the best post being Bilk - Beer made from milk

On top of that is Japan Probe a Japan news commentary site and Tokyomango a more relaxed commentary/personal blog.

Requests?

November 14th, 2006 by quaisi

I`ve hit a bit of a slump blogging wise and need some help to get out of it so I`d appreciate it if my wise, kind and loyal readers might have any requests for subjects you`d like me to talk about, pictures you want to see put up and discussed or anything else that springs to mind?

Thanks.
