Danjiri Day I - Apologies

Well did you enjoy the live blogging feature? I don`t know where I went wrong. I sent some posts via my mobile ohone to blogger`s email address to put up here and some pictures via flickr to automatically post here. And it all went wrong. Apologies if you did make the effort to read.

I had a really good time. I arrived there at six in the morning on three hours of sleep and it was already in full flow, by eight the danjiri pullers were cooling off with Asahi Super Drys and by 12 I had heard five ambulances pass by with danjiri extras inside. Whether they were suffering from heat exhaustion, broken bones or death I do not know but what I loved was the cry of joy and chorus of whistles everytime they manoeuvred a successful pass of an intersection, corner or bridge.

I gate-crashed a pit stop and managed to take some pictures of the intricate carving on the beasts which I`ll put up soon. All in all I took about 150 pictures so I have a lot of sorting through them to do. I`ve found a few good spots to return to tomorrow. I`m really looking forward to the evening when the danjiri are adorned with lanterns for some really good photo opportunities. And I can drink beer.
