Festivalgate

This is Festivalgate as seen from Shinimamiya Station. This complex is quite fascinating as there is a shopping centre, an indoor amusement park and a pay-to-ride rollercoaster that snakes around it.
It used to be busy but now it almost resembles a ghost town. Unfortunately most of the shops are closed and the centre itself will be shutting down shortly.

It looks complicated, yet fun!
Shame they’re closing it down store by store. Perhaps they can offer me a cut-rate deal on it, and I could use it as some sort of evil headquarters, or the like.

Too bad. I went to Festivalgate when I was in Osaka back around June of 2001. Even then it was a virtual ghost town, which made the experience incredibly surreal and highly entertaining. Green light from the roller coaster bathed everything in an eerie supernatural glow, animatronic characters twitched and chirped at an empty mall, and then my friend and I sat in a moving booth and shot light guns at dancing mushrooms and demons. I’m still not entirely certain the whole thing wasn’t a fever dream.
