Futon Taiko and Danjiri

The danjiri festival was very fun. It was also very surreal when you think that the reason you are unable to walk down a particular street is because 500 Kishiwadans are pulling a 4 tonne wooden float down it. I`ve got a Flickr photoset of the danjiri festival up. The picture above is a danjiri adorned with lanterns.

I went to another festival at a medium sized shrine relatively near to where I live called Futon Taiko which means cushion drum. I think. Here they had danjiri as before but they were carried on the shoulders of the townspeople up the set of steps below and then into the shrine to be blessed.

It was almost as chaotic as the Kishiwada danjiri - especially when they went up or down the steps as it was the most dangerous part. One slip would have a four tonne danjiri in your face. Below is a close up of a smaller one.
