Kyobashi train Osaka loop line

I was on the train on the way home. This train, the JR Loop line, at rush hour is the busiest train I`ve ever been on. Osaka`s subway train is also busy after a summer firework festival in the city centre but rush hour on the loop line is something else.

The act of standing is not necessary. As we are so tightly packed, there is no need for balance or for that matter feet. You could hover 15 centimetres above the ground and be so tightly crammed that you`d stay upright with no need to grab a strap when a curve approaches.

This is in severe contrast to the second train home. Here a man got on and stood in front of a gap next to me that was at least two people wide. He was relatively elderly and I wondered if he was standing to prove his virility and strength. In light of my previous post, I guess not.

Define “rush hour”. I’ve been on the loop line at 5pm and at 8pm, and it’s been equally crowded at both times.
