My first private English lesson

Today is something of a milestone in my life as an English teacher in Japan as it was the first time I taught a private English lesson on my own time and got paid for it.
I went to a cafe with a teacher from an elementary school I taught at and had a one hour conversation complete with free coffee and cake. Although getting to the nearest train station took a substantial amount of the money I earned, it still amazes me that some people would be willing to pay to talk to me for an hour.
I enjoy conversation classes as they require only that I talk with the student for an hour. When I teach private lessons at the evening school, I often have to work from a textbook and explain complicated grammatical terms. I understand and can define a modal verb, infinitive and relative clause relatively easily thanks to my French and German training but having a casual conversation for an hour and getting paid for it at the same time is rewarding in many ways.
