On Writing. On pavements

I recently finished reading the excellent `On Writing` by Stephen King. As well as giving some interesting hints on writing, he tells you how he was walking along a country road when a van came careering around a corner whose driver was being troubled by his rottweiler and ran him over causing multiple breaks and a punctured lung.

It never occurred that this might happen to me but now I realise it might. Japan AKA Pavementless Land (what does that look like in kanji?) means that I often have to walk along the edge of busy roads. This shocked me although it took a long time for it to sink in. It wasn`t until three months in that I asked Reiko where all the pavements are.

There`s a corner I have to pass on the way to the evening school I teach at on which lies a newly erected mini parking lot. The ticket machine blocks out a clear view of the oncoming traffic which means this is where I`ll probably meet my end. Punctured lung and all.

OMG your blog reminds me so much of my time in Japan. I studied in Japan through 2004 and the start of 2005 in Kyoto.

How’s your Japanese? I was studying New Media so really didn’t study much Japanese but picked up loads of slang. I too have a Japanese girl who i’ve been going out with for nearly 3 years now.

Please see my blog. I’m coming back to Japan in June and can’t wait.
