Of course Osaka is King but this is an event I went to in Osaka today called Osaka King. It`s a sort of funfair/fete held in Osaka castle`s sandy park over the last week.
Best for its mascot the lion seen above and on a televison channel possibly TV OSAKA . As an easily amused person, I spent all week copying it and his catchphrase “Ooooooooosaka. King.”
They also had a space in your brochure for ink stamps to show where you`d been. I thought this was only confined to the Aichi Expo but Reiko informed me this was a typical Japanese obsession. They love souvenirs. Thus the slaphead cameraman here and also a man wearing a car were on hand to rubber stamp you through the event.
In a cunning commercial move, everything cost a new plstic unit of currency called the King. 1 King was 100 yen so four takoyaki were 2 Kings, a beer 4 Kings and five dumplings were 3 Kings. You could ony buy “Kings” in sets of five and you couldn`t change them back into proper money if you had some left forcing you to spend them all. Got to love capitalism.
