I went to the Osaka sumo tournament on Sunday where I took lots of photos. This is from the penultimate bout where the Mongolian yokozuna Asashoryu watches the action from the side before his own turn comes.

I have a flickr set of some of the better pictures I took.

And how about a very detailed entry on Sumo wrestling from wikipedia?

Is it possible to see some form of Sumo wrestling outside of when the major tournaments take place? I’m going in early August and could go to a match in either Tokyo or Osaka.

      Thanks

I checked the official sumo site in English - http://www.sumo.or.jp/eng/ and there aren`t any major tournaments in early August. There`s one in July and one in September.

I must say you`re very brave to come to Japan in August. It`s REALLY hot and humid.

Maybe there`s a minor tournament somewhere. Perhaps you can find it on the site.

Hope that`s okay. Take it easy,
