I found out part way through that there is an out for spouses. Our immigration system is different than the UK, but in Canada, the spouse does not actually have to be working to sponsor an immigrant. It sure helps pay the bills, and it looks good in the case files if you are employed. Good luck Si. It'll work out. I went through the same thing.
